The start of the Premier League season went
from bad to worse for the Red Devils, as they
were held to a draw by Sunderland at the
Stadium of
Light.
Sunderland, who narrowly avoided relegation
last season, looked the more comfortable team
throughout,
and had a handful of chances to win the game.
The Black Cats went a goal behind in the first
half after Juan Mata pounced on a loose ball in
the box to make it
1-0 to the visitors.
But despite their slim advantage, Manchester
United sat back and invited the home side onto
them, and
Sunderland soon grabbed the equaliser after
Jack Rodwell headed
home from a Seb Larsson corner.
Heading into half time with the scores level,
Louis van Gaal was clearly unhappy with his
side’s performance,
but he failed to motivate them to do any better
in the second half.
Jack Rodwell’s equaliser on his debut after
completing a move from Manchester City to
stadium of light was enough for Sunderland to
salvage a point against Manchester United.
