A
gang of cultists, members of the Ake Confraternity, has allegedly
killed one of their sponsors, a native doctor, and two others in
Obiaruku Community of Delta State, after what witnesses called a “fierce
disagreement” on Wednesday.
Investigation showed that the native doctor had been responsible for
preparing the charms used by the cultists while the two other victims
were allegedly killed by stray bullets during a rival cult war that
ensued on the same day.
The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu,
confirmed that arrests have been made while investigation is on-going to
ascertain the cause of the killings.
Meanwhile, a gang of rapists have laid siege on Delta State, raping no
less than six married women and a number of minors, especially in
far-flung communities.
In Ibusa Community, for example, six women have been abused at gun
point, in the last two weeks, while they were returning from the market.
According to witnesses, the rapists have also turned on minors in Agbor
Town and some part of Asaba Community. While reacting to the incident,
Kalu confirmed that the victims have been taken to private hospitals
where they were examined by doctors and treated.
According to Kalu, the official statistics of rape cases in the state
indicate that between January and June 2014 the state has recorded six
cases of rape, while eight other suspects who have been confirmed as
rapists have been jailed.
Kalu said the police are committed to stamping out rape and cultism,
which have become major crimes in the state.
Kalu also disclosed that the suspected rapists allegedly ambushed their
victims around the popular Ibusa Market.
Kalu also told journalists that the suspects were currently helping the
police at the state CID for further investigation.
