COEASU To Suspend Strike Thursday

Prospects of lecturers under the aegis of
Colleges of Education Academic Staff
Union (COEASU) suspending their seven-
month industrial action heightened
yesterday as the committee of Council
Chairmen of Federal Colleges of
Education called a truce meeting to
douse the crisis rocking the sector.
Just like the Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnic(ASUP)which recently
suspended their strike after
10months,executive members of COEASU
are scheduled to meet with the Minister
of Education, Ibrahim Shekarau before
tidying up arrangement to suspend the
strike.
Indications that the strike may come to
an end this week emerged after an
enlarged meeting called at the instance
of the chairman, Committee of Council
Chairmen of Federal Colleges of
Education, Sen Emmanuel Anosike, held
at the National Commission for Colleges
of Education (NCCE) to review the
nationwide strike.
All the stakeholders at the meeting later
agreed that the ongoing industrial action
by the union had been prolonged.
